Martin is a piano player, composer, songwriter from Bolton, Manchester. Specialising primarily in rock, blues, popular, indie and standards.
Initially classically trained, his influences eventually transcended towards the more piano orientated rock/pop such as early Elton John/Billy Joel, and in general, artists such as Beatles, Stones, Paul Simon, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Steely Dan, Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Wonder, Keith Jarrett, Roxy Music, Frank Zappa, John Cale, Scott Walker.... an appreciation whether it be for their songwriting, musicianship, inventiveness or production.
Martin also has a thing for rock/indie music and enjoy putting a piano spin on the likes of The Who, Doors, Zappa, Bowie, Led Zep, Kinks, Velvets, Smiths, Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Kooks, Foo Fighters etc.
Martin has played the keys for various original/cover bands over the years and accompanied many vocalists from all genres....rock, indie, swing & soul. His style could best be described as going from full-tilt bluesy rock to low-key 'piano brooding'....whatever captures the mood or that emphemeral moment.
Other projects have included composition/music direction for stage productions and studio session work.
