Desi Castro is a uniquely dynamic and versatile entertainer with over 20 years of experience in the music, entertainment industry.
Born into a family of musicians meant it was inevitable that he would compose, sing and perform for a living.
That encounter led to Desi being invited to sing with the Sheffield based Virgin recording artists Floy Joy. After numerous tours and national TV coverage promoting the album Into The Hot as backing singer, he was elevated to lead vocalist and co/ writer for the second album Weak In The Presence Of Beauty, recorded in Detroit, the home of Motown Records. Whilst recording Desi was fortunate to sing backing vocals for the local mayor’s re-election campaign along with the legendary queen of soul Aretha Franklin, The Four Tops and The Staples Singers. That experience and the advice received from such iconic musical luminaries would prove invaluable to this day. The title track from the album was later recorded by Alison Moyet.
After the demise of the band the producer of both albums Don Was, of Was Not Was asked Desi to join his group in Los Angeles to record the album Wot Up Dog, featuring the hit song Walk the Dinosaur. After two years in the USA and with a collection of his own compositions he came back to the UK to form his own band Everyday People who were quickly signed to SBK/EMI and recorded the album You Wash I’ll Dry, which featured three European hit singles, Headline News, I Guess It Doesn’t Matter and Second Nature . An extensive world tour ensued and the band supported Lisa Stansfield, The Brand New Heavies and Will Downing. His group won the prestigious battle of the bands competition, the prize resulted in a four week tour of the Far East and the opportunity to write and perform songs for Japans hierarchy.
Later in his career Desi teamed up with members from The Christians to co/write and sing on the Gut Records album, Head to Heaven with the band Born Again.
Working with Errol Brown of Hot Chocolate encouraged the development of a solo career which saw the release of two singles, Stranger, and L.O.V.E. Poem, the latter receiving recognition from Paisley Park Records.
Presently he can be seen performing his own songs and classic covers by Michael Buble, Nat King Cole, UB40, Lionel Ritchie, Usher, Van Morrison, Frank Sinatra, etc... at selected venues in the UK and abroad. A collection of songs entitled The Soul Sensation and all the aforementioned recordings are available via this site and at a concert.
